Design Needs
The client wanted to have an unified solution for registering courses with their full details, that could also keep track of teachers and student.
Keeping organised the courses and printing custom certificates was the main aim. FileMaker was the best choice because of the native form system and the low budget associated with the project.
Challenges
At the time I was still exploring how relational databases worked, and designing a good and coherent schema proved to be quite time consuming. In the end I came out with a solution that did the job better than what was asked.
Overcoming FileMaker’s limitations with printed layouts was also a big problem, because of the lack of page breaks. A workaround was used to avoid truncating sections where they shouldn’t.
The UI, although too casual for my current standards, was not too bad.
